The challenge
We were invited to provide simultaneous interpreting at an international medical conference whose topics were highly specialised.
To prepare for the conference we provided oral translations of video presentations, which we subsequently recorded in our technical partner’s recording studio.
The video presentations translated orally and recorded were used for oversound dubbing. Using this technique, the voice of the dubber is superimposed over that of the speaker seen on the video, whose voice in the original language remains audible in the background.
There were multiple technical aspects and services to be taken into account during simultaneous interpreting and oversound dubbing.
Furthermore, we were working to extremely tight schedules.
The solution
A Project Manager was tasked with selecting and appointing two simultaneous interpreters who specialise in the medical sector and identified a technical partner for the various services required.
Commissioning specialised simultaneous interpreters who were familiar with the highly technical subject matter was crucial to ensuring that we delivered an efficient interpreting service.
Translating orally, directly from video, is not usually the best option, but it was the solution agreed on this occasion due to specific customer requirements.
In this case too, our long-standing expertise was key, as well as our linguistic competence and relevant specialisations.
Our technical partner, with whom we have been working for many years, was extremely professional and well prepared from a technical point of view.
The result
Our client was particularly impressed both by our interpreters’ high level of linguistic and technical competence and by the oversound dubbing, and also appreciated our ability to keep to the schedules.
