Sworn translation, legalisation and consular visas

SWORN TRANSLATION

A sworn translation, also known as a notarised or accredited translation, is obtained when a professional translator declares that the translated document is a true and faithful translation of the original document, this being sworn in front of a Court Registrar, thereby making the translated document “official”.

LEGALISATION

Legalisation is the official confirmation that the signature affixed to the document is authentic. This process is usually required for documents that are to be used abroad and is handled by a Notary Public or Court of Law.

Legalisations are necessary for documents requiring consular visas in the countries of destination (countries that are not part of the Hague Convention).

CONSULAR VISAS

We can provide:

  • consular visas on passports
  • consular visas on documents

For years companies have relied on us to obtain visas for tourism, business, export, study, and transit purposes, from all the consulates and embassies in Milan and Rome.
We deal with all the paperwork required to obtain visas.

APOSTILLE

Countries that are part of the Hague Convention introduced in 1961 may replace legalisations and consular visas with apostilles. An apostille is a special stamp that certifies the validity of the signature affixed to the official document as well as the authority of the officer who has signed it. In this way, the sworn and certified document is accepted in all Hague Convention countries.

The choice between apostille and legalisation depends on the country in which the document is required. If you are not sure which you need, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to assist.

A sworn translation is an official translation carried out by a Sworn Translator accredited by a Court Registrar who guarantees that it is a true translation of the original text.

Legalisation is the procedure by which a public authority certifies the authenticity of the signatures affixed to a sworn translation. This process is usually required for Italian documents that have been translated into another language.
