Interlinguae makes its acquired expertise and skill available to customers, right from the choice of what kind of interpreting service is best adapted to their specific needs.
o Simultaneous interpreting is oral translation normally performed by a pair of interpreters per language who follow the presentations through headsets and simultaneously translate for a group of listeners. Those listening have headsets for following the simultaneous translation in their own tongue. Simultaneous services are normally organized for international conferences, conventions and meetings.
o Simultaneous chuchotage interpreting If during a conference or meeting just a single individual requires the presentations to be translated, a simultaneous interpreter may be assigned who whispers the translation into the attendee’s ear. This service is normally performed by just one simultaneous interpreter per language.
o Consecutive interpreting is performed by simultaneous interpreters who translate what a speaker is saying without the use of headsets at intervals of 5-10 minutes. This type of interpreting is used when only one foreign language is required and normally for short meetings with a limited number of participants.
o Liaison interpreting refers to the service of a single interpreter who translates during a business meeting between two or more individuals at a company’s facilities and who accompanies the parties during the visit of the plant, to other customers, etc. This type of service also includes interpreting for the training of technical personnel, accompanying of foreign delegations and linguistic assistance during fairs or other events. |

Interlinguae has an extensive network of professional interpreters selected according to the rigorous procedures outlined in the ISO 9001:2000 and UNI 10574 Quality System standards. Every interpreter has his or her own field of specialisation and type of interpreting, each of which requires specific expertise and skills.
o Simultaneous: concentration and a regular pace. Translating as the speaker talks means having to listen in one language and speaking in another while leaving out very little. Despite the fact that the interpreter is dependent on the pace of the speaker, on the other hand he or she must reproduce the translation in a regular flow without stopping and then running to catch up, while at the same time avoiding a mechanical, expressionless tone that could put listeners to sleep!
Qualifications required for this type of activity: Degree in Simultaneous Interpreting or Diploma as a Parliamentary Interpreter.
o Consecutive: Excellent overall level of culture and speaking skills. The interpreter knows that when he or she begins to interpret, the audience has already been listening to the speaker for approximately ten minutes without having understood what was said. Therefore, using notes taken utilizing a special technique, the interpreter must “package” a discourse that reproduces the speaker’s discourse in an effective manner, without leaving out any information and summarizing the basic concepts.
Qualifications required for this type of activity: Degree in Simultaneous Interpreting or Diploma as a Parliamentary Interpreter.
o Liaison: intuition, good communication skills, light appetite. Making sure that two people speak to and understand each other is a delicate task, even when only one language is involved. Liaison interpreting requires the interpreter to make use of all his/her intuitive skills to clearly understand the objectives each of the parties hopes to obtain from the meeting and what are the proper tones, nuances and intent that lie behind the means of expression that are culturally often very different. Communication between the parties must be continuously encouraged, facilitated and revived, even when negotiations continue for hours without a coffee break. At a business lunch or dinner, it even means having to translate the entire menu, ingredients and preparation methods included!
Qualifications required for this type of activity Same as the above, but a Foreign Language degree is also sufficient.
o Hostess: personal attention, a good memory, a pleasant smile … it’s not easy to fit into a company’s sales team at a trade fair quickly and effortlessly! A hostess must immediately memorize “who’s who” at the stand, what the company does, how the promotion material is organized and what information she may furnish visitors directly. Plus, in order not to seem a “fish out of water” she must also intuit the company’s mode of dealing with outside contacts (listen to all information requests? take down information for future contact? discourage those who are “just looking”?) and never, under any circumstances, must she appear bored if the flow of visitors drops off.
Qualifications required for this type of activity: If the Hostess is not required to provide liaison interpreting, a Secondary School education with specialisation in modern languages is sufficient. |
